Dan Carter - IRB Player of the Year for 2012.

All Blacks Dan Carter has been named the IRB Player of the Year for 2012, for the second time. The accolade completes a hat-trick of awards for New Zealand, as the All Blacks were named IRB Team of the Year for the sixth time and Steve Hansen the IRB Coach of the Year at the Rugby World Cup 2015 Pool Allocation Draw in London today.

What do you think? You didn’t think Owen Farrel would win did you?

Allianz Park

Saracens have entered a long-term partnership agreement with Allianz this represents a landmark for club rugby in England. Allianz will become the main club sponsor and the innovative north London club’s new home ground in Hendon will be named Allianz Park.

Allianz Park, hitherto known as the Copthall stadium, will become a unique venue for Premiership rugby, athletics and community sport. Incorporating an artificial turf pitch and an indoor training area, the new stadium will become a genuine community sports hub, used every day of the year and made available free of charge to local schools.

Sarries will become the first professional rugby union club in the world to play on an entirely artificial pitch when they move to the refurbished stadium next year.

This could be a massive risk, but if it works it will be a massive bonus as they will not have to refurbish the pitch for 10 years.

On Saracens match days, Allianz Park will combine the very latest technology in giant screens, sound systems and wireless technology with a traditional warm rugby welcome to create one of the most comfortable and spectator-friendly stadiums in European rugby.
